Brain Box

Description

Moving from primary to second-level education can be an intimidating prospect for many young pupils. Some feel nervous and apprehensive while others are genuinely terrified at the prospect of being forced out of their comfort zone. Even simple things like making new friends can often prove difficult not to mind the process of understanding the many new demands associated with second-level education. The Brain Box Transition Programme addresses all of these issues in a systematic and engaging manner to ensure that, by the end of the day young pupils will feel equipped, empowered and excited about their transition to big school.

This one-day interactive programme is fun, and highly engaging. It consists of six themed modules: Mindset Matters; Fuel for the Brain; Neurofun; Memory Master; Circle of Friends; and, Game On.

Objectives

We will help your pupils:

✔︎ Discover what it means to have a growth mindset!

✔︎ Investigate what resilience means and help them understand the self-satisfaction to be gained from persevering with tasks;

✔︎ Explore the importance of their overall well-being and in particular the impact of different foods on concentration, focus and memory;

✔︎ Develop strategies for making new friends;

✔︎ Address any fears and concerns about the transition to big school.

Blast Off

Description

The first year of secondary school is crucial to enabling students to develop both the mindset and study habits to succeed at school. If those habits can be embedded at this early stage then the journey through second level education can be smoother and much more rewarding.

Blast Off is an upbeat, interactive and fun programme that has been designed to captivate, motivate and educate young people about their brain and learning. It aims to create a success-oriented mindset amongst students, boost academic performance and foster a positive, lifelong attitude to learning.

Objectives

We will help your pupils:

✔︎ Kick-start the post-primary learning journey;

✔︎ Understand how their brain and memory work;

✔︎ Develop simple, effective time management techniques;

✔︎ Learn and practice active learning strategies;

✔︎ Develop effective homework and study habits;

Drive for Results

Description

Our flagship programme ‘Drive for Results’ is guaranteed to provide the foundations for your students to succeed in their first formal state exams. Through practical, meaningful and relevant activities, students discover the merits of a variety of evidence-informed learning and revision techniques. In Drive for Results we use a mix of single desk tasks and group work activities.

Objectives

We will help your pupils:

✔︎ Become empowered by investigating the incremental theory of intelligence – the idea that your intelligence can grow;

✔︎ Understand how the brain learns and the significance of this for our study habits;

✔︎ Develop an understanding of the memory system;

5 Steps

Description

By implementing 5 Steps to Exam Success usually stressful exam scenarios can become very rewarding and even enjoyable!! By the end of the seminar it is our aim that all students will have adopted the skills, competencies and mindset required for exam success.

Objectives

We will help your pupils:

✔︎ Assess their mindset and how they currently approach tasks;

✔︎ Develop personalised study strategies and critically evaluate outdated notions around learning styles;

✔︎ Optimise their energy levels by investigating and applying strategies to generate and harness energy;

✔︎ Apply robust, well established time management techniques;

✔︎ Devise an exam countdown planner;

✔︎ Psychologically prepare for exam time;

✔︎ Address all fears and concerns relating to exams.

Mastermind

Description

Post-16 presents many different challenges and opportunities. Students are expected to think and act more independently, be more self-disciplined, mature and responsible. At this stage students ultimately really begin to take responsibility for and control of their own learning.

In Mastermind we focus on three themes: Mindset Matters; The Malleable Brain and Efficient Learning.

Objectives

We will help your pupils:

✔︎ Self-assess and reflect on previous performance so that they can build on success and address short comings;

✔︎ Examine ability beliefs and how they affect both motivation and performance;

✔︎ Develop a personalised approach to study informed by the latest research from cognitive science;

✔︎ Investigate a range of time management tools and agree on which works best within their context.

Elevate

Description

Elevate has been designed specifically for final year (6th Year & Year 14) students. The Programme is divided into three sections: Section One sets the scene by illustrating relevant aspects of the science of learning. Empowering students with the latest evidence is critical to ensuring their ownership of the journey through their final post-primary exams. We present this in an accessible and relevant way and also bust some enduring, yet unhelpful, learning myths that steal time and undermine effectiveness. Section Two puts the latest science into practice and offers strategies around planning, note-taking, retrieval and wellbeing. Section Three focuses on maximising exam performance. Here, we bring our collective educational and research expertise to bear in a unique exam preparation system, which has already proven successful with thousands of students. We also offer a range of evidence-based exam tips and techniques with cross-subject relevance.
