Description

Academic streaming is undoubtedly a divisive topic. However, there are many others who believe that streaming children by perceived ability can damage them for life. In this module teachers will be presented with the most recent empirical and theoretical evidence on the topic, enabling them to make reflective, informed decisions about what might work within their specific context.

Objectives

  • Assess the arguments for and against academic streaming and in particular its' impact on reducing the achievement gap
  • Investigate the effects of academic selection and streaming on academic self concept
  • Explore the international, cross cultural evidence relating to academic streaming
  • Investigate the effects of streaming on student engagement, motivation and success
  • Evaluate case studies
